How to make a Soli bracelet
(don't worry, there's a video at the end if you need more help)

So, here is the low down . . .
This is what the bracelet with the tag will look like.

This is what the tag says:

These colors represent the flag of Zambia, it's green, red, black and orange.

The Soli people group are from Zambia.

On the back of the bracelet we have the wordless book gospel colors interwoven--black, red, white, yellow, green--this is to represent our purpose for raising funds. What is the gospel you ask?
Go to our "Good News" page or:

click here to watch a short video about it.

The Soli do not have a Bible in their language and most can't read. So seeing the Jesus Film in their language will be an awesome way for them to hear about how they can have a relationship with God!

Still with me? Good!

Now to the making of the bracelet!
(to view the pictures larger just click on them)
You'll need the following:
41 light green bands
(6 more light green bands if you want to make an adult sized bracelet)
8 dark green bands
5 red bands
5 black bands
8 orange bands
1 yellow band
1 white band
1 clip
and of course a loom and hook

Turn your loom this way and start looping your rubber bands up. 8 green bands up each of the three columns until it looks like this:

Now loop 1 red, 1 black and 2 orange on each of the three columns like this. (we thought we'd do two orange, one for the orange stripe on the Zambian flag and one for the orange bird on the flag. In case you were wondering.)

Skip the first row of three, then all the way up make these funky upside down triangles. First 7 are dark green bands, then 1 red, 1 black, 2 orange and then. . . TRICKY PART: the last triangle is TWO light green bands. That's right, 2 bands, one triangle.

Okee doke, now turn your loom around like this so your light green triangle is on the bottom.

Did you flip it? Just checking!  :)

Time to use the hook. Make sure you get under the green bands to get the orange one and bring it forward to the next piece. Like this:

When you've completed the first row of orange, your loom should look like this:

Now that you're a pro, just go up each column the same way you started.

To get the top to look like this, simply take your hook and put the left and right sides onto the middle spot.
Then get the hook and slide it through the three combined bands in the middle.

Take TWO light green rubber bands and hold one end with your fingers from one hand, and the other end with your hook that is being held by your other hand and slide both bands through and over your hook. Like this:

Good job! Now it's time to slide that puppy nice and good further down the handle of your hook and rip (carefully) the bracelet off the loom like this:

Almost done!  Now to complete the bracelet.

Your going to DOUBLE band each loop in this order:
light green, light green
light green, light green
light green, black
light green, red
light green, white
light green, yellow
light green, dark green
light green, light green
light green, light green

If you are making the bracelet for an adult, do the same as above except go double light green all the way to the end.

Your double bands should look something like this:

OK, last tricky part. Take the thick loop that has been patiently waiting on your hook and attach it to your loom like the picture above. You can do it, take your time! (Or ask one of your parents for help.)

Then finish it off like you did before. Hook under and loop over all the way to the end. It should now look like this:

 Your doing great!

Now just put your hook through the last hole and carefully take the bracelet off.

Attach your clip (c clip, o clip, or any ol' clip will do) to each end and voila! You just made a "Reach the Unreached" Soli bracelet!

Now, click here to print the tags and attach them to your bracelet.

You can print the tags on any kind of paper (we used brown card stock), and tie it with whatever string or yarn you have available.

Now you're ready to pray, make more bracelets, and raise funds for the Soli translation!

This video is pretty helpful if you get stuck, just remember to stick to our color scheme. Thanks friend!
